The earth has more than circled the sun once since we decided to get a Bernese Mountain dog, and finally the time has come!
We chose to get a Berner because it is a beautiful and intelligent breed known for its loving nature. Due to their size (they can get up to 120 lbs.) we resolved to get a female, who usually weigh between 80 and 100 lbs. After a long time of waiting for the right puppy, our breeder of choice finally had a litter of 8 pups on Christmas Eve, with 4 girls in it. January 30th, when the pups were 5 weeks old, we visited with the breeder to pick which of the 4 females was going to be our dog. Not easy given the ridiculously abundant cuteness of each and every one of them . We picked Polly (at the top of the picture), in big part because she picked us: unlike her sisters, she was less interested in playing with her litter mates but instead goofed around with us. She then proceeded to fall asleep in our laps, at which point we were completely smitten. We will go pick her up to come live with us February 20th, when she is 8 weeks old. Henceforth, Polly shall be known as Trouble.
